Do you feel that you remain sad or not satisfied most of the time? Do you feel an anxiety for things that aren’t really serious? Do you feel low all the time? Do you often feel hopeless, helpless or pessimistic and ask yourself why am i so unhappy? Do you sometimes wonder will you ever be happy?
I mean truly happy. Not some moments of weak sunshine in between the lifetime of grey skies.
Life is difficult. After all, how could you ever be truly happy when life tosses you around like a leaf in a storm, forever snatching happiness out of your hands?
But, it’s time to realize, life is what we choose to live it. All people face difficulties, small or big, what matters is how we deal with the situation. Our choices decide whether we will be happy or sad.
1. You are doing everything to make someone else happy
Who is the most important person in life? Your parents or your love. Your life revolves around them. They are your world. But, sometimes to make others happy, you forget about your own happiness.
You may not like science at all but you have to choose your career as your parents demand. After this, neither would you like studying nor the job you get. You don’t enjoy your life anymore. It’s your life. Say a ‘no’ even if your parents don’t like it. They too need to understand your likes and dislikes.
When you’re in relationship, you try your best to change yourself according to your love. You hate cricket but you are forced to watch all matches with him. You love to dance but you aren’t allowed just because your in-laws think it’s disgusting.
You are not supposed to kill yourself from inside to impress people who pretend to love you. If they really do, they will accept you completely.
2. You want more money
“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” –Frederick Keonig
It’s true that human greed never stops. If you have a BMW, you want a Porsche. You are not satisfied with anything you have. You always want more. This is a warning that no matter what you achieve in life, you will never be satisfied by anything.
If you want to be rich, count the things which money can’t buy you.
Base your happiness on inner wealth not on materialistic things. Riches such as creativity, generosity, and authenticity can never be taken away from you – except by you.
3. You want your relationship to be perfect
“Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” – Stacey Charter
You want your love to be perfect. Your relationship should be sugary sweet, completely romantic with no fights at all.
If you think so, dear, these all things are a myth. There are fights, misunderstandings, crying, insecurities and all sorts of difficulties in a relationship. You just have to stay together no matter what.
Don’t expect too many things from your love. He/she also tries best to make you feel special. You shouldn’t push too much. Even if your love is unable to spend time with you, there will be a very strong reason for it. Don’t frustrate too fast. And most importantly, don’t ever compare your relationship with some else’s. You’ll ruin everything otherwise.
4. You either live in past or future
“Men spend their lives in anticipations, in determining to be vastly happy at some period when they have time. But the present time has one advantage over every other – it is our own. Past opportunities are gone, future have not come. We may lay in a stock of pleasures, as we would lay in a stock of wine; but if we defer the tasting of them too long, we shall find that both are soured by age.” – Charles Caleb Colton
Maximum people either live in past or the future. If you had a good past, you compare your present with those times and feel that present is horrible. If you had a dark past, you remember those days and cry for things that can never change. Or maybe, you spend your time thinking, what will happen in future. STOP THINKING ABOUT THESE THINGS.
Learn to live in your present and enjoy each day as if it’s going to be the best.
5. You feel sorry for yourself
“Self-pity is our worst enemy, and if we yield to it, we can never do anything wise in this world.” –Helen Keller
Life isn’t always a radiating sunshine. Many things happen which can batter your happiness hard.
But you should never depress thinking what all bad things happened with you, things could have been worse as well. If anything bad happened with you, you should let go of things and try to concentrate on things happening presently in your life.
Don’t blame yourself for things that happened to you. Rejoice every moment of your life.
6. You focus on negative side of life
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us.” – Helen Keller
Are you a pessimist? Do you always look at the negative side of everything? Is it hard for you to find anything good in people or in situation? Do you always imagine worst things? If you don’t change your attitude, you will never be able to seek happiness.
Try your best to stay with people who are good, read positive books and even listen to happy songs. These things can really improve your attitude towards life.
7. You compare your life with others
“Our envy always lasts longer than the happiness of those we envy.” – Heraclitus
Competitions are healthy. But competition should be for an important race. If you spend your entire energy in finding ways to win someone in matters of materialistic things, you’ll never be happy.
Some people live a luxurious life. They were destined may be. It doesn’t mean that you’ll envy them for everything they have. Instead what you should do is make yourself capable enough that you can get everything you ever want for yourself.
8. You don’t have patience
Are you in haste of getting everything fast? Do you want all your dreams to be fulfilled right now? And if things aren’t going as fast as you want, do you get frustrated?
Firstly, why do need everything the moment you desire for it? Are you dying just tomorrow that you want to live your last day luxuriously?
Have patience. Success will slowly come with time. You need to push yourself daily to achieve your goal. All you should do is work as hard as possible and wait for things to be perfectly as you want!
9. You either die out of inferiority or superiority
Do you feel yourself to be better than others? Or you think you are a no one? Either way, you’ll not be happy.
If you think you’re better than others, you will try your best to live up to your bubble reputation. And you’ll turn like ‘plastics’ of Mean Girls. Those kinds of girls can never be happy, we all got that, right?
If you are a low esteemed person, you’ll keep on thinking that you are worthless and nobody wants you. This is also bad.
Change the way you think about yourself. People will see you the way you treat yourself.
10. You never forget or forgive what wrong people did to you.
Bad things happen in life. It doesn’t mean that you should never forgive people who did wrong to you. Forgive people from your heart, not just from your mouth. If you don’t, you’ll always get angry just by the name of that person. You unknowingly, wish bad things should happen to that person. You always have grudges against that person and you find ways to seek revenge from that person.
You should let go of things. The more you remember bad incidents; your focus on happy things in life fades. Even after many years, you will not forget those things and spoil your mood after remembering that incidents.
Hence, you will not find happiness no matter what.
